Course Content and Learning Objectives

Ready or not, technology is advancing at a rapid rate and is making its mark on the delivery of mental health services. While this presents many opportunities for clients and providers, alike, it also presents some challenges and leaves many questions unanswered, for now. This training highlights significant situations that can present challenges for clinicians who are providing telemental health services and who incorporate technology-assisted software, artificial intelligence, and mobile applications into their practice. Professional Counselor ethical codes from APA, NBCC, ACA, and AMHCA and Georgia are utilized as a reference.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will understand ethical principles related to technology-assisted mental health counseling.
  2. Participants will understand uses, benefits, and limitations of artificial intelligence in mental health counseling.
  3. Participants will be able to identify and select mental health mobile applications, including social media applications, that can be used to supplement telemental health.

CE Hours

Completion of the full course provides 6 CE hours approved by NBCC and LPCA-GA.

Dr. Lynell Howard is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor who has been in practice over 20 years. Dr. Howard has earned a Master’s degree in clinical psychology and Doctorate in organizational psychology. She holds licenses as a professional counselor in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas and has been a practicing consultant and clinician in various settings. Aside from her work as a mental health clinician, Dr. Howard provides professional training, counseling, and support for professional organizations across the US, Europe, and Asia.
