Course Content and Learning Objectives

Clinical supervisors must have a deep understanding of the ethical principles, rules, and licensing laws that govern the counseling profession in their state. This course provides an in-depth examination of these regulations and the changes that have been made over the past 5 years by the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists regarding licensure of professional counselors. Participants will be engaged with a dynamic blend of lecture, interactive group discussions, case studies, and quizzes to increase their understanding of Georgia’s ethical and licensing requirements for counselors and clinical supervision. By the conclusion of this course, participants will be better prepared to navigate the complex ethical landscape of supervision, ensuring the ethical development and growth of the counselors they oversee while upholding the highest professional standards mandated by the Georgia Composite Board.

  1. Review and understand the licensing requirements and processes outlined by the Georgia Composite Board and the implications of licensing laws for clinical supervision.
  2. Examine the ethical considerations unique to clinical supervision and develop strategies for providing ethical and effective clinical supervision.
  3. Explore ethical dilemmas related to dual relationships and boundary crossings.
  4. Recognize the importance of self-care for clinical supervisors and explore strategies for managing the emotional demands of supervision.

CE Hours

Completion of the full course provides 6 NBCC/LPCAGA approved ethics/core CE hours. This course satisfies training requirements for new and renewing CPCS certification.

Lynell A. Howard, PhD, LPC, NCC, CPCS

Dr. Lynell Howard is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor who has been in practice over 20 years. Dr. Howard has earned a Master’s degree in clinical psychology and Doctorate in organizational psychology. She holds licenses as a professional counselor in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas and has been a practicing consultant and clinician in various settings. Aside from her work as a mental health clinician, Dr. Howard provides professional training, counseling, and support for professional organizations across the US, Europe, and Asia.
